Description

T-shirt illustration done for Spiral Direct. Great fun to do!
The background is black because the illustration are to be used on black clothing only.

If you are into hardcore heavy metal stuff, then I guess their site is something for you: http://www.spiraldirect.com/

Reference used for the pose. Painted using Photoshop CS2 with a Wacom Intuos tablet, as usual.

My only crit is her tattoos look a bit pasted on. Otherwise, it look righteous! And those are some kick ass boots. :)

wicked image. I always feel that these Tshirt designs (not just yours) are a bit floaty but they have to be like that I suppose because you need them to blend in with the material...hence the black all around the edges.

Wicked image though. Top marks.

Andy: yeah, and this specific company are printing on black material exclusively, I think, hehe. I could of course have made a different background for portfolio presentations, but bleh... Thanks :)

Lighting is sublime on this Henning - the tattoos look really good too, its tough to get them to look real.

Top Stuff.

Hey Henning

this is looking great!:)
great pose and and tattoos/spikes

I think the dark shadow on her right leg (inner thigh)
is a bit harsh and could smoothen out a bit more;)

That said this is a cracking image + 10

I've done quite a few designs for Spiral myself,
it's a fun company, they have great in-house artists and vision:)

Great work as usual Henning.

I love her expression, it 'makes' the whole image.

Not sure if I'd wear it though, maybe 20 years ago LOL

Well Done :)

Nice, it looks to me that a lot of the time you use anatomy reference very closely. Are these images traced (for the line sketch and then painted) or do you draw them from scratch?

Anyway, very nice image.

Thanks guys :)

Juro: Yes, I do rely a lot on references in my paintings, but I never trace. I do however *usually* use the grid technique to get the anatomy somewhat right for the first line-art version (as done on this specific piece).
I know that some people don't see any difference in tracing and using the grid technique, but I don't care about that. It's all about how rewarding I find my work for myself :)

Cool, I'm always interested in how different artists create their work. I'm a fan of yours, good stuff.

There's a looong video in the current issue of ImagineFX, showing how I'm making my doodles from scratch. My first vid ever, hehe.

Thanks again, Juro :)

Very nice work. I really like the rendering and the details are great. I think the feet could use a bit more tweaking though.

I really like your work including this one. I got a lot out of your tutorial on painting a face on your site. I just posted one using your technique. (thumbup)
